Choose your existing SIM, a local SIM or eSIM
First list what you will use your phone for: navigation, messaging, regular calls, video calls or sharing internet with a computer. A large data allowance alone is not enough; call coverage, validity and out-of-bundle charges also matter.

Do not infer that the same tariff applies because the operator's name resembles the brand you use in Turkey. Consider bank or verification messages sent to your existing line too; learn dual-SIM settings and charges before turning it off.
Do not equate an online application with a working connection
Kuzey Kıbrıs Turkcell's eSIM pageexplains device compatibility and activation steps after subscribing. The online tourist SIM application also requires completion of identity, delivery and contract procedures. Finishing a purchase or application screen alone does not prove the line will be ready on landing.
Save where activation takes place, required documents and the support channel for your chosen product. If scanning a QR code using only one phone, learn the provider's manual-installation or second-screen method. After installation, check that the correct SIM is selected for mobile data; do not randomly enable roaming without knowing the charge.
Create an arrival file that opens without internet
- The full accommodation name, street address, entrance location and telephone number.
- Flight and booking records; copies of necessary information that open on the device.
- Airport meeting instructions and confirmed contact details for the party collecting you.
- A map of the first journey, backup address directions and any handover location.
- A shared meeting point with your travel companion.
Saving a link does not save its content offline. Test that messages, addresses and booking documents actually open with internet turned off. If needed, save the address separately as a screenshot and short text. Keep document copies secure; do not put identity numbers in a trip note intended for general sharing.
Try your offline map at home
According to official Google Maps help, downloads may not be available in some regions. If the app permits it, use Wi-Fi to download an area covering the entire first journey, not just the hotel. Then turn off internet and check that the map opens; do not merely assume it downloaded.
For offline driving directions, the entire route must be within the downloaded area. Google states that walking, cycling and public-transport directions are unavailable offline, as are live traffic and alternative driving routes. Therefore, save addresses and simple route notes separately for walking. Confirm with the provider whether the map pin marks the main entrance or a rear road. Do not adjust phone settings while moving.
Check entry documents for your nationality
The Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairsstates that Turkish citizens can travel to North Cyprus with a valid identity document and that ID-card travel requires a new-generation Turkish identity card. Do not treat the old identity booklet as the same document. Check current official requirements separately for your nationality, mode of travel and purpose of stay.
Ask the airline and relevant official authority about children's documents, accompanying adults and procedures for study or work visits. Match the ticket name to the travel document. If hiring a car, check driver and contract requirements separately from entry documents; confirm accepted driving licences and payment terms when booking.
Final preparations for payments, charging and time
The official tourism source lists the Turkish lira as North Cyprus's currency. If a price is displayed in another currency, ask which currency will be charged; check overseas use and fees with your bank. Have a payment option ready for initial small expenses.
North Cyprus uses British three-pin Type G sockets. If your charger's plug does not fit, bring a suitable travel adapter. An adapter changes plug shape; check your device's electrical compatibility separately on its label. Ask your hotel about room sockets and adapter availability.
Compare your phone's local date and time with the times in flight and meeting messages. Refresh messages on arrival; update saved instructions if the address changes.
