Leave the car and walk around Kyrenia
If driving, choose your car park first rather than navigating straight to the harbour. For exploring the centre, Baldöken Car Park is one starting point. Once parked, you do not need to find another space between the castle, harbour and old streets.

Baldöken Car Park
A parking option for the centre
If Baldöken is full, consider Kordonboyu Car Park opposite Rocks Hotelas a second option. Kyrenia Municipality lists both among its municipal car parks. Switching car parks changes the starting point and return walking distance; open navigation from your new location.
Read the charges and payment arrangements before parking. Save the car's actual location on your phone; saving only the car park name may not be enough to find it in a large area.
Count the return walk as part of the day too. The visit may feel over after your final coffee, but the car is still in the car park; do not rush this last walk, especially with children or a tired group.
The roughly four-hour central plan does not include travel from or back to your hotel.

Castle, harbour and old streets
Central Kyrenia · A walk from one parking spot
Parking → Kyrenia Castle and Shipwreck Museum → historic harbour → Round Tower and Bandabulya area → meal → return. Allow around 4 hours for a central visit including a meal.

Centre + Bellapais · A day in two parts
Central visit → meal → return to parking or meeting point → drive to Bellapais → abbey and village. Allow around 6–7 hours for this day, adding hotel travel in both directions separately.

Start with a 60–90-minute allowance for the castle and museum. If you enjoy reading historical details, extend this and remove a later stop. You do not need to complete every wall, room and stepped section.
When looking at the shipwreck, think about its cargo too. Nautical archaeology investigations recovered hundreds of amphorae and millstones; the millstones also helped balance the ship. This detail helps you see the wreck as a working Mediterranean merchant ship rather than just an old wooden hull.
With children, start with the ship and a short castle exploration. Extend the visit if they remain interested and energetic. Consider the return before climbing stepped sections.
Then head down to the harbour
After the castle, continue to the waterfront. You can allow around 30–40 minutes for walking and photographs; add any seated break separately.
Notice the old warehouses along the harbour. Carob played an important role in the area's trading history, and some former warehouses now serve as restaurants and shops. Relating today's uses to the buildings' former functions makes a waterfront walk more meaningful.

Round Tower and Bandabulya area
After the harbour, choose two concrete destinations in the old streets: Yuvarlak Kule — Round Tower and nearby Kyrenia Bandabulya.
The Round Tower is one of the surviving structures of the old city walls. Bandabulya is the city's old market area. A short 20–30-minute circuithere takes you from the waterfront into the inner streets and shows another side of Kyrenia. If businesses inside are closed, explore the surrounding streets; completing this section does not require shopping.

For fish and seafood, choose the branch beside the castle on Küpdemir Street.
Before ordering, clarify whether fish is priced by portion or weight and what a set menu includes.
If staying only in the centre, you can head back after food and rest.

Towards Bellapais
Bellapais is in Beylerbeyi village on the slopes south of Kyrenia. The abbey's Gothic architecture and coastal views offer a different experience from the central castle and harbour.
The church, arcaded courtyard area and former refectory are the main focus. Depending on which sections are open that day, allow 45–60 minutesfor the abbey and 20–30 minutes for the village surroundings and a short sit-down. Extend this if you want to study the architecture or enjoy a long coffee break.

Do not plan Bellapais as a short walk continuing from the centre. Leaving the centre, driving, finding parking and walking to the entrance are separate stages. The map's driving estimate does not include them all.
Make this decision after your meal: Do you have around 2–2.5 hours for reaching and visiting Bellapais, plus time to return to your hotel? Continue if so. If most of the time would be spent travelling or the group is visibly tired, finish the central visit instead.
If going inside the abbey is your priority, visit first and leave village coffee until later. Check the last admission time before setting off.
The castle, harbour and old streets can be explored on foot. For those staying near the centre, this section alone may not require a rental car.
Hotel + surrounding excursions
Travel from a hotel outside the centre and onward to Bellapais are separate transport decisions. With a rental car, park once in the centre and walk, then return to the car for part two.
If continuing by taxi, agree on the meeting point after your meal and return arrangements from Bellapais. Do not build a last-minute-dependent plan assuming a car will be immediately available outside the abbey.

Is it suitable with a pushchair or for someone who has difficulty walking?
Do not assume step-free access throughout the castle and abbey. Choose one main visit, and ask the venue about access to your chosen section and toilets before going.
What should I change if I fly from Ercan the same day?
Choose the short central route. Work backwards from the airline's required arrival time, allowing for travel to the airport, any fuel stop and car return, to set your sightseeing finish time.
Can I add a boat trip to this day too?
Depending on the tour's departure and return times, you may need to move the castle or Bellapais to another day. Do not treat a boat trip as a short break in the programme.
